The goal of the TERASTART is to found a theory and practice, which provides a framework for experiences and applications of the terahertz (THz) band of the spectrum.
Our aim is to present a novel single-band and multi-band THz imaging and analysis methodology and practice, which is capable to perform wide area time-domain spectroscopy and integrating imaging.
The novelty of our approach is the integration of the following basic components: femtosecond THz pulse generation on LiNbO3 crystal with unconstrained aperture size and intensity, band specific filters, directional antenna coupled bolometric and LTG-GaAs detector arrays, and distributed massively parallel image processing architectures and methods.
The identified applications - dermatology, solar panel manufacturing monitoring - will be in prototype phase from the beginning of the third year of the project. This phase is depends on the outcome of the previous basic research period.
In the project we plan to involve several pre-doctoral students and young researchers, we will strengthen the interaction within the Hungarian partner research institutions, and seek collaboration with international partners.
