Researchers of SZTAKI, Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungary, will lead the international project FLiPASED (FLight Phase Adaptive Aero-Servo-Elastic aircraft Design) which intends to revolutionize aircraft wings through developing and testing the so called active-controlled wings.

His Excellency, Mr. Volkmar Wenzel, Ambassador of Germany in Budapest and Mrs. Krisztina Hodosiné Márton, Counsellor for Science, Environment and Agriculture at the Embassy of Germany in Budapest paid a visit to the Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZTAKI) on July 16, 2019.

On the 23rd of June, 2019, dr. Peter Inzelt, former director of the Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZTAKI), honorary Professor of the ELTE University deceased in his 75th year.

The next generation of robots could be entering the workplace alongside humans, but this first needs some collaborative principles to be established. SYMBIO-TIC has developed a system for such a safe, dynamic, intuitive and cost-effective working environment.

The 'Flutter Free FLight Envelope eXpansion for ecOnomical Performance improvement' (FLEXOP) project is an EU H2020 project. It opens a complete new dimension for derivative aircraft design. In order to validate the different methods and tools developed in the project, a flight-test campaign will be carried out, in which the design and manufacturing of stiff wings, very flexible wings with active flutter control, as well as tailored wings for passive load alleviation will be verified.

Between the 10th and 12th December 2018, three members of our Institute (Gergely Horváth - EMI, Csaba Kardos - EMI, Balázs Pataki - DSD) participated on an integration meeting of the H2020 project SYMBIO-TIC.

In the last week, our eLearning Deparment presented smartphone-based developments on several topics in several towns at several different professional events to museologists and representatives of tourist organisations.

The members of the delegation were Dr. Stephen D. O'Regan (Associate Director, Office of Naval Research, Prague Office), and Ms. Amanda Napier (Science Advisor, US Army RDECOM-Atlantic).

Between 29-30 Oct. 2018, the 4th Progress Meeting of VISION H2020 EU-Japan research project was held at our Institute. Our partners in this project are as follows: ONERA, University of Bristol, University of Exeter, Dassault Aviation, RICOH, JAXA, ENRI, Mitsubishi Space Software and University of Tokyo.

With more than 500 participants coming from many continents, the World Congress of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO), already in its 22nd year, concluded successfully in Belfast, United Kingdom, where Hungary was represented by our two colleagues Dr. Zsolt János Viharos, senior research fellow of the Research Laboratory on Engineering and Management Intelligence of the MTA SZTAKI and Ákos Zarándy, head of the Computational Optical Sensing and Processing Laboratory, who was elected to be an IMEKO member.

Researchers' Night is organised all over Europe to popularise science. Our institute has been opening its doors to interested visitors at this series of events for years, and this year our researchers are holding a spectacular demonstration abroad as well. Zsolt László Márkus and Zsolt Weisz will present the results of the eLearning Department in Burgas (Bulgaria) at the local event of Researchers' Night.

Sándor Bozóki (colleague of the Research Group of Operations Research and Decision Systems, Laboratory on Engineering and Management Intelligence) has received the 'Jean-Pierre Brans PROMETHEE Award for the best paper' in the 4th International Conference on Decision Support System Technology (ICDSST) – PROMETHEE Days 2018 conference for his paper and presentation 'Global sensitivity analysis in PROMETHEE'.

The 16th IFAC INCOM conference was held in Bergamo, Italy and the invited session organized by our colleagues was one the most attended ones. Our proposal for organizing the next, 17th edition in Budapest in three years was accepted.

The eLearning Department supports the development, management and presentation of multiplatform (mobile and Web) games as its most recent service. By using the service, we have created a serious educational game “The Thracians” about the ancient tribe in cooperation with our Bulgarian partner institute. The game development tool supporting new methods of interactive learning and the game is presented in two short videos at the opening conference of the H2020 project REACH (RE-designing Access to Cultural Heritage) on 10-11 May 2018.

The Institute for Computer Science and Control (MTA SZTAKI) Budapest, Hungary launches a lecture series to commemorate the intellectual heritage of late Prof. Rudolf E. Kálmán, who died in 2016 at the age of 86. The aim of this lecture series, which will be called Rudolf E. Kálmán Distinguished Lecturer Program, is to present some recent significant scientific results ‒ accomp­lished via the fruitful interaction of pure and applied sciences and scientific fields, such as mathematics, engineering, informatics and control theory ‒ in a generic and plain scientific manner to a fairly wide professional audience.

Péter Györgyi (of the Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence) has received a Second Prize in the 'Best Student Paper Award' in PMS 2018 Conference for his presentation 'Minimizing the total weighted completion time in single machine scheduling with non-renewable resource constraints' (joint work with his supervisor Tamás Kis).

We take the opportunity and congratulate our colleague György Lipták, Research Fellow of the Systems and Control Lab. He had his viva on the 25 April at the Doctoral School of Information Sciences at the University of Pannonia. He successfully defended his thesis.

The FLEXOP consortium -- led by our Institute -- has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle platform to facilitate the study of aeroelastic behaviour of aircraft and test advanced control methods for the future generation of commercial aircraft.

Dr. Zsolt János Viharos, senior research fellow at the Engineering and Management Intelligence Laboratory received a certificate for his outstanding contribution in the reviewing processes from the international scientific journal Measurement.
