COURAGE H2020 project, along with six other projects, was invited to exhibit on the European Institutions Open Day 2018 in Brussels. In the event held on May 5, the selected projects aimed to demonstrate scientific research and innovations come to life under the H2020 framework.

The eLearning Department supports the development, management and presentation of multiplatform (mobile and Web) games as its most recent service. By using the service, we have created a serious educational game “The Thracians” about the ancient tribe in cooperation with our Bulgarian partner institute. The game development tool supporting new methods of interactive learning and the game is presented in two short videos at the opening conference of the H2020 project REACH (RE-designing Access to Cultural Heritage) on 10-11 May 2018.

The Institute for Computer Science and Control (MTA SZTAKI) Budapest, Hungary launches a lecture series to commemorate the intellectual heritage of late Prof. Rudolf E. Kálmán, who died in 2016 at the age of 86. The aim of this lecture series, which will be called Rudolf E. Kálmán Distinguished Lecturer Program, is to present some recent significant scientific results ‒ accomp­lished via the fruitful interaction of pure and applied sciences and scientific fields, such as mathematics, engineering, informatics and control theory ‒ in a generic and plain scientific manner to a fairly wide professional audience.

Péter Györgyi (of the Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence) has received a Second Prize in the 'Best Student Paper Award' in PMS 2018 Conference for his presentation 'Minimizing the total weighted completion time in single machine scheduling with non-renewable resource constraints' (joint work with his supervisor Tamás Kis).

We take the opportunity and congratulate our colleague György Lipták, Research Fellow of the Systems and Control Lab. He had his viva on the 25 April at the Doctoral School of Information Sciences at the University of Pannonia. He successfully defended his thesis.

The FLEXOP consortium -- led by our Institute -- has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle platform to facilitate the study of aeroelastic behaviour of aircraft and test advanced control methods for the future generation of commercial aircraft.

Dr. Zsolt János Viharos, senior research fellow at the Engineering and Management Intelligence Laboratory received a certificate for his outstanding contribution in the reviewing processes from the international scientific journal Measurement.

A workgroup of the EU-Japan H2020 VISION (Validation of Integrated Safety-enhanced Intelligent flight cONtrol) project aims to increase safety in case of the possible performance degradation of automatic landing systems (GNSS or ILS) by integrating vision based information.

MTA SZTAKI Department of Distributed Systems is working on a solution that enables long-term digital preservation of knowledge and R&D results built up during the past several decades.

Muzeum@Digit 2017 conference, organized by the Hungarian National Museum, focused on the current questions and sharing best practices regarding innovation and digital renewal. In the event held on November 28-29, András Micsik, senior researcher of the MTA SZTAKI Department of Distributed Systems gave a presentaton on the COURAGE EU project, the Linked Data approach and the long-term digital preservation.

Attila Cs. Marosi and Róbert Lovas (of the Laboratory of Parallel and Distributed Systems) together with Ádám Kisari and Ernő K. Simonyi (of the Systems and Control Laboratory) won the Best Paper Award of the IEEE Future IoT 2018 Conference, which was held in Eger . The title of their article was 'Novel IoT Platform for the Era of Connected Cars'.

The Faculty of Transportation and Vehicle Engineering of Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is to launch an English-language graduate course in autonomous vehicle control engineering from September, state news wire MTI reported

iKOMP: “Strengthening of the regional research competencies related to future-oriented manufacturing technologies and products of strategic industries by a research and development program carried out in comprehensive collaboration” (VKSZ_12-1-2013-0038), started in 2014 to encourage the research and development (R&D) in the Western Hungarian region has been ended with success in 2017.

2017 brought to our Institute numerous high-profile professional programmes, scientific cooperation opportunities and industrial innovations. Besides our best-of-breed activities in basic research our staff concentrated intensively on developing solutions for the private sector as well as defining new services to the benefit of the community and society.

Part-time researcher Sándor Molnár of the System and Control Lab successfully defended his DSc thesis.

In year 2017, already the 26th Hungarian Quality Week and its connected conference were organised in the headquarter of the Hungarian Standards Institution under the motto: “Positive aspects of change”. Our colleague, Dr. Zsolt János Viharos hold a presentation entitled “Quality Aspects of Industry 4.0” for the relative high number of participants.

Our institute participated successful on Websummit, one of the most prominent and biggest IT conference and fair in the world in Lisbon. The institute was represented by the Shared Virtual Reality Research Group of the Machine Perception Research Laboratory. Due to the open source ApertusVR product, our institute gained the opportunity to interact with future clients from sectors that were not characteristic before.
