The aim of the project is to develop a standard wireless system architecture that allows:
- secure, managed connectivity of wireless clients, the so called federated, institution wide mobility
- unified, managed user database
- easy to use and standard communication interfaces with different WLAN service providers
- modification of user profiles of central operators could in respect of accessing resources, web pages, VPN-s, bandwidth, usage time
- the collection of statistical information about network usage, e.g. accountability
- modification of personal data, and other parameters using a standard portal interface by the end-users that allows
- flexible payment methods - prepaid and postpaid

The design of the system is hierarchical and distributed with components that allow information passing via the centrally managed part. The project builds on open source software components that allow seamless communication with commercial products especially RADIUS and LDAP. Special attention is directed to open source WLAN access controllers, in order to assess the usability in academic environments.
