Pocket Guide tourist software
1 Jun 2007– 31 Dec 2010

The Pocket Guide is a tool integrating the functionality of the cityguide, the audioguide and the navigation systems. The service makes sightseeing possible without any additional preparation. With its help, the tourist does not need calculate and plan sightseeing using guidebooks and information on the Internet or select at random from the torrent of the available information. For example, if tourists visiting Budapest have altogether three hours for sightseeing they can select one from the 10 included tours with the given length without any additional time expenditure and they can walk along the selected route. In this way, they can spend their free time most effectively.

Pocket Guide was aimed to help tourists out of that overflow of information, to give them an instrument that helps them explore the city in their own pace and depth without having to worry about navigating their way between points of interest.

During the operation of the service, the visitors choose one from the pre-organized tours that is interesting for them and then nothing to do for them except follow the audio instructions of the device. During approaching a point of interest, Pocket Guide tells to the user where to see and the information on the point of interest is also told then the device helps further in navigating along the route. Simultaneously with the audio instructions, the pictures taken about the point of interest are appear on the display beside the map and the current position of the visitor in order to facilitate the identification. Of course, the tour can be randomly stopped or restarted. While walking between two points of interest, the user can listen to interesting stories about the city and its history.

The roaming option of the device provides the opportunity to freely walk. During this option,
the sights around the visitors become visible on the display while they freely walk in the city. When any of these places are being approached, the device starts the audio guide automatically.

The Pocket Guide tourist software won the Hungarian Product Grand Prize in 2009. The president of the Economics and Informatics Committee of the Parliament handed over the prize.
