NIIF eLearning kísérleti program

NIIF eLearning experimental program
1 Jan – 31 Dec

The eLearning project of NIIF ( National Information Infrastructure Development Program ) was initiated with the objective of promoting the wide scale utilisation of eLearning technologies in the education institutions of NIIF using the excellent network infrastructure of NIIF.

eLearning is a key technology available for realizing all information society related programs and NIIF core activities. The "NIIF eLearning pilot program" that was started in 2004 as one of the smallest projects of NIIF represents only the first steps on the way to assessing, facilitating and promoting the eLearning initiatives of the Hungarian higher education. In addition to the general assessment of the current situation, we set the target to overcome a significant obstacle hindering the wide scale utilization of eLearning. This obstacle is the incompatibility of courseware used at different sites, which is caused by the application of typical island solutions.

In the case of eLearning there are no clear-cut, widely used standards yet. Consequently it is a typical problem that a courseware that was developed for one environment cannot be moved to an other environment. This means that courseware usually is not portable between the learning management systems. To overcome this situation our project establishes a central courseware database. This database can serve as a collection of data on those electronic courseware that are available within NIIF and its partners. It will also serve as a repository that will contain the courseware themselves converted to a standard format. Our department undertook the conversion of the courseware collected within the framework of this project to this standard format.

It is also an important task of the project to set up a team that can act as a co-operating partner of other Hungarian and international eLearning teams operating in other sectors of the economy (public education, professional training, industry), but nevertheless pursue similar objectives.
