EU Industry Days 2019 focused on key industrial challenges such as sustainability, digitalisation, investment and globalisation. The event, on 5-6 February, demonstrated how EU industrial policy benefits European citizens and provided input for future policy making. EU Industry Days gathered around 1,800 participants from across Europe and beyond, including stakeholders representing industry, trade unions, national and regional authorities, and civil society.
In order to demonstrate the end of a current 2-year-long R&D joint project, MTA SZTAKI and the consortium-leader HEPENIX Ltd. had jointly organized a conclusive event for a large number of industry-oriented experts. The target of the INTRO:4.0 project was to support and enable SMEs and other industrial enterprises to introduce new industrial technologies, offered by the international movement named Industry 4.0. The project aimed to serve Use-Cases, digital technologies to the manufacturing and other industrial companies.
In order to deepen the scientific collaboration, the two partners are organizing a German-Hungarian Innovation Day entitled “Partnership for Innovation and Excellence,” which will be held on the premises of MTA SZTAKI in Budapest on May 25, 2018. High-caliber speakers at the event will include Prof. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Prof. László Lovász, President of MTA, Prof. László Monostori, Director of MTA SZTAKI and head of the Fraunhofer-SZTAKI partnership, and László Palkovics, minister for Innovation and Technology. The event will also include the official opening of the offices of the newly established corporation EPIC InnoLabs Non-profit.
In year 2017, already the 26th Hungarian Quality Week and its connected conference were organised in the headquarter of the Hungarian Standards Institution under the motto: “Positive aspects of change”. Our colleague, Dr. Zsolt János Viharos hold a presentation entitled “Quality Aspects of Industry 4.0” for the relative high number of participants.
“Industry 4.0 – the future of industry and engineering education” was the motto of the 15th anniversary of the engineering education celebrated by the region of Zalaegerszeg, mirroring its present, future and traditions, too. Our colleague, Dr. Zsolt János Viharos presented one of invited speeches entitled “Industry 4.0 from scientific viewpoint”.
A successful R&D project that was launched in 2015 is to be completed in June 2017 by the project consortium. The project was funded by the Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Fund and it was coordinated by the Institute for Computer Science and Control (MTA SZTAKI). The technical objectives of the project were to define and implement a set of automated control functions for commercial vehicles.
The molecular diagnostics of cardiovascular diseases, which are highly endemic in Hungary, tumour and inflammatory diseases, and the development of essential manufacturing and logistics systems for industrial production will be the core focus areas of the two new domestic centres of excellence which were among the 10 winners in the “Teaming” research excellence programme, the most prestigious Widening actionl of the Horizon 2020 framework programme.
The March event of the Budapest Open Knowledge Meetup series took place on March 23, titled “See through the walls!”

Successful presentation and technical demonstration of the R&D results concerning the aircraft sense and avoid system development was given to the American experts.
The official inauguration of László Monostori elected as a member of acatech (Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften, National Academy of Science and Engineering) in 2015, took place at this year’s General Assembly of the Academy.
Prof. László Monostori, Director of MTA SZTAKI, Head of the Centre of Excellence in Production Informatics and Control (EPIC) participated at the international press conference held in Brussels the 23rd November, 2016, where the results of the ”Teaming” research excellence programme which is the most prestigious call of the Horizon 2020 Widening Programme were announced.

The RobustPlaNet EU FP7 project, coordinated by Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence, was closed by the final meeting held in Foligno 4th September 2016, and the following industrial workshop took place in Bologna.

Within the EXCELL EU H2020 project, colleagues of our laboratory actively collaborate with the Germany-based Fraunhofer FIT (Institute for Applied Information Technology) institute in the topics of machine learning and data analytics.

Our laboratory pays special attention to provide an opportunity and a up-to-date environment for the representatives of the next generation so that they can gain industrial-like experience along their theoretical education. Thanks to our co-operation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, project tasks, scientific student research and theses are made with the supervision of our lab’s staff on our research infrastructure, which is constantly being developed together with the students.
