Abnormal condition management (ACM) refers to actions that are required when complex systems move beyond their normal operating envelope. In the process industries alone it is estimated that over $20 billion per year in losses is attributable to poor ACM.
This seminar discusses the key system components that have an important role in ACM, illustrating their importance by recent industrial accidents worked on by the presenter. The purpose of the seminar is to generate potential directions for a more holistic approach to this important problem.
