Successful Demonstration at ITS World Congress:
Cooperative Vehicle and Infrastructure Communications
Systems and Control Laboratory performed a successful communication system demonstration at ITS World Congress, which took place between 22 and 26 October in Vienna. The demonstration event that was part of the official demo program of the World Congress, was organized jointly by the European framework projects ITSSv6 (FP7) and FOTsis (FP7). The demo program was embedded in the real road environment of city Vienna, in the immediate vicinity of Vienna Exhibition and Congress Centre, near Prater Messezentrum. The objective of the demonstration was to make the benefits of the integration of the most recent reference communication technologies (802.11p [ETSI G5], 3G, WiFi) using the IPv6 communication protocol and mobility technologies in the vehicle and the roadside infrastructure clearly visible. A deployment view of the ISO/ETSI ITS Station (ITS-S) Reference Architecture was presented. The scenario focused on the implementation of Central, Roadside and Vehicle ITS-S stations, where all type of communication links (i.e., sensor access, 3G, 802.11p, WiFi) was based on native IPv6-based communication. The presentation of the integration methods of low-power road sensors within the RSU ITS-S architecture concept was one of the main demo highlights.
