The purpose of the KOPI portal is to detect plagiarism and to protect documents from being copied as the advance of computer sciences not only has made it easier to create written documents, but also has made it extremely simple to copy and plagiarise whole documents or parts of documents.

The act of plagiarism has become an accute problem in the field of education, mostly in higher education where more and more publications, theses and essays are created from digital sources and fail to give proper citation. Of course, such misuses seriously damage the reputation of the institutions concerned.

How to use KOPI
The similarity search engine detects overlaps between uploaded documents. To be able to limit access to the users' documents, the system needs to identify the users, thus it needs registration. The following five steps are to be taken to enable the system to compare documents to each other, to others documents or to a database of digital documents.

The purpose of the project
The purpose of the project is to develop a free on-line plagiarism-search portal that helps to detect plagiarism and similar documents.

Why such a portal is needed?
A number of instructors face the problem that many students fail to indicate sources and citations in dissertations and theses. This portal will make it possible to detect such misuses. Also, it may help the spread of digital libraries as copied documents can be identified with the help of the system within seconds.

Services
The system is able to compare documents uploaded by the user with each other or with the ones found in the database(uploaded by others). Also, we plan to create a digital library or an on-line document collection as part of the database. The system can detect a paragraph long overlapping in the documents.
Besides these services the portal familiarises the visitor with the corresponding laws and regulations, and gives the opportunity to exchange ideas on related topics.
