The Scientist of The Year, Pioneering in Propagating General Knowledge, 2005
In 2005 the prize of "The Scientist of The Year, Pioneering in Propagating General Knowledge" was awarded to TIBOR VÁMOS, research professor in information science, ordinary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, chairman of the board of the Institute, Computer and Automation Research Institute, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and was presented to him on the 14th of December, at the Academy.
The prize is awarded yearly by the Club of Journalists on Science to the scientist whom they deem as the one having done, in the past cycle, the utmost in the interest of exellently propagating science in an easily intelligible manner, above the outstanding scientific activity pursued. From now on, also a star is named after Tibor Vámos, which step is associated to the price.
Tibor Vámos, upon taking the prize expressed his thanks to the journalists, pointing out that the civil appreciations like this are always particularly important for him. The Professor made his ars poetics known, according to which, he is convinced that for scientists and science-related journalists irradiating optimistic world concept is a must, since people face rather negative influence through media and politics. This positive concept of the universe might be fostered by the fact that science never in the history has done so much in the favour of the world's advance as recently - the Professor believes.
