MTA SZTAKI and MIMOS join forces to transfer knowledge and technology
MIMOS and MTA SZTAKI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 9 June 2008 for the transfer of knowledge and technology on workflow management technology.
MTA SZTAKI, a European Union Centre of Excellence in Information Technology, will work closely with MIMOS, a strategic agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, develop a grid workflow management system which will automate distribution of IT processes; and harnesses existing computing resources; enhances collaboration.
This includes technology collaboration for development, deployment and support for P-GRADE portal, developed by MTA SZTAKI’s Laboratory of Parallel and Distributed Systems, to solve grid system interoperability issues at the workflow level.
"Ultimately the P-GRADE portal, under KnowledgeGRID Malaysia, will enhance collaborative efforts in the bioinformatics and chemistry industries," said MIMOS’ Grid Computing Cluster Head, Thillai Raj.
KnowledgeGRID Malaysia, launched in August 2007, is a significant step forward to build the cyber-infrastructure for Malaysia to provide a coordinated, single economic engine to compete with the rest of the world. Above all, it is a commitment, through the advancement of frontier technologies, to improve the quality of life for every citizen in Malaysia.
P-GRADE Portal is essentially a workflow oriented computational grid portal that supports the development and execution of workflow based on grid applications through high-level, graphical Web interfaces. It solves interoperability issues within different grid middleware technologies. Workflows developed in the P-GRADE portal are portable between different
Grids without any re-learning of the new Grid system or re-engineering the application. It can connect various grid systems based on these grid middleware technologies such as Enabling Grid for E-sciencE (EGEE), TeraGrid, South Eastern European Grid-enabled eInfrastructure Development (SEE-GRID), Open Science Grid (OSG) and UK National Grid Service (NGS).
