Co-operation between T-Online Hungary and the SZTAKI
From now on a new version of the SZTAKI online dictionary is available on the web. Based on a co-operation between T-Online Hungary and the SZTAKI, the most popular free-of-charge online dictionary belongs to the [origo] services from October. Ownership- development- and operation-issues are not included in the co-operation agreement, therefore, these conditions are the business of the SZTAKI, also in the future.
The SZTAKI online dictionary has been considered the most frequently visited dictionary site in the Hungarian web service for more than ten years. It is extremely popular with users, due to its simple manageability, clarity and, last but not least, its free-of-charge nature. Features such as being an audible dictionary, which makes the acquisition of pronunciation easier, or the vocabulary function facilitating the translation of texts of considerable length induce the efficiency of the dictionary with respect to most of the online dictionaries free-of-charge. Our service provides a considerable word-batabase, primarily the English - Hungarian, and Hungarian - English dictionaries containing 185000 doublets.
Naturally, the SZTAKI dictionary will be available at the site: szotar.sztaki.hu further on, too. From now on, however, the service will be integrated into the search functions of [origo] more tightly, and the service of Useful dictionary by T-Online (www.t-online.hu/hasznos/index.html) is linked to the SZTAKI dictionary.
The extension of the high-level service having been in operation at the SZTAKI for years, is scheduled in several fields. For this reason, developments in the contents are combined with the design - modified to a certain extent - of the decorative site. On the one hand, we intend to increase the number of languages, totalling six for the time being (English, German, French, Italian, Dutch and Polish), and on the other hand, the contents of the dictionaries are planned to be supplemented in the future.
In addition to the above, the users are planned to be involved in the development in a more active way, and this is where the co-operation with the [origo] plays a major role. The dictionaries are intended to be completed, which emphasizes the team feature of the site. Those visiting [origo] will be given the possibility of a new high- level service, with the opportunity of making corrections, suggesting developments, generating, this way, a sort of web-community.
