The 61st General Assembly of CIRP was held in Budapest - László Monostori is Vice President Elect
On the 60th anniversary of its foundation, the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP, www.cirp.net) held its General Assembly in Budapest, August 21-27, 2011, with more than 500 prominent representatives of science and industry. The prestigious organisation having limited number of fellows was established in 1951 in order to support the development of manufacturing science and technology through international cooperation. The choice of the event location honoured the leading Hungarian professionals of the field and reflected, simultaneously, the remarkable standard of production engineering in Hungary and its role in the national economy.
The Hungarian researchers, who represented partly the Computer and Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZTAKI) and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), contributed to the programme of the General Assembly with their presentations addressing such topics of world-wide interest, as the dynamics of the manufacturing processes, maintenance scheduling of wind farms, or control problems of cooperative, responsive enterprises focusing on sustainable production. In the latter field one of the key-note presentations prepared in broad international cooperation was held by József Váncza.
Special congratulation is due to László Monostori who was elected future President of the CIRP. By this way a four-year period started with phases of Vice President Elect, Vice President, President, and finally, Past President.
