Dr.Kopácsi Sándor a Budapesti Műszaki Egyetemen 1990-ben villamosmérnöki-, 1992-ben műszer- és irányítástechnikai szakmérnöki-, 1995-ben PhD, 2000-ben MBA diplomát szerzett. Emellett a Budapesti Közgazdaságtudományi Egyetemen 1996-ban mérnök-közgazdász oklevelet kapott. 1986 óta dolgozik a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Számítástechnikai és Automatizálási Kutató Intézetében, ahol jelenleg tudományos főmunkatárs. Vendégkutatóként 1991-ben 3 hónapot töltött a szöuli Korea Institute of Science and Technology Kutatóintézetben, 1996, 1997 és 1999-ben pedig több hónapot a Chemnitz-Zwickaui Műszaki Egyetemen, Németországban. A Magyar Tudományos Akadémiától 1998-ban három évre Bolyai János kutatási ösztöndíjat kapott virtuális valóság alapú szimuláció rugalmas gyártórendszerek tervezésére és elemzésére témában. 2002-2003-ban 10 hónapig dolgozott a németországi Institut für angewandte Systemtechnik (ATB) Bremen kutatóintézetben, ahova 2005-ben 3 hónapra Magyar Állami Eötvös Ösztöndíj támogatással tért vissza. Évekig tanított a Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem több karán, óraadó volt a Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem és a Közép-Európai Egyetem Üzleti Iskolájának angol nyelvű képzésein. 2005 óta főiskolai tanár a Gábor Dénes Főiskolán. Évek óta tagja a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Köztestületének, az Association for Logic Programming (ALP) szervezetnek és az International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) konferenciák programbizottságának. Külföldi és hazai folyóiratokban ill. konferencia-kiadványokban több mint 70 tudományos publikációja jelent meg, többségében angol nyelven. Szakmai érdeklődési körébe tartoznak a tudásbázisú szimuláció, animáció, mesterséges intelligencia, grafikus rendszerek, virtuális valóság és a 3D vizualizáció egyes területei.
