Description
Our department, named Internet Applications Department, founded in the mid 80’s is one of the oldest departments within SZTAKI.
Since then and still now our main ambition is - based on the research potential of the institute - to develop practical, real-life applications, that are accepted by the market. Our experts (designers, programmers) are familiar with the hottest networking and Web technologies (Java, .NET, SQL, etc). Their professional profile cover the two most popular development platforms (MS Windows and various LINUX distributions) and programming languages like Java, PHP, C#, .NET, database management systems, like MS SQL, MySQL and PostGreSQL.
We have set up long term cooperation with prestigious Hungarian and multinational companies like Ipsos Zrt., Szerencsejáték Zrt., Global Market Insite (USA), BrainJuicer Ltd. (UK).
Outstandig results
Our Library Automation Group - founded in 1992 within the frame of the Department - has started an ambitious development project at the end of the 90’s. The members of the group - librarians and developers - have recognized that there is a need in the Hungarian libraries for a library management system, which is based on modern technologies, is cheap and follow the rules and requirements specific for Hungary. The new library management system developed in the frame of this project - and in cooperation with a SME based in Szeged - was named HunTéka. Since then HunTéka became one of the leading library management system in Hungary used by over hundred Hungarian academic and public libraries.
In cooperation with international market research companies we have developed several software solutions to support market- and opinion research. Now our staff is prepared and capable to solve any IT problem arising in this industry segment.
It was in 1996, when the Hungarian National Lottery company - in cooperation with us - has “opened a window” to the internet. Since then we are a stable cooperating partner of this state owned company - who plays an important role in the stability of the state budget.
A thesaurus is a database that lists words grouped together according to similarity of meaning. Köztaurusz - designed by Rudolf Ungváry, number one Hungarian thesaurus expert and developed by our programmers - is now in service and online available. It is an indispensable tool for librarians who are cataloguing and for readers who are retrieving online library catalogues.
