Dear Colleagues,
Hungary has been awarded the honour to host the 55th Congress of the Liga Medicorum Homeopathica Internatinalis to be held between May 13-17, 2000.
In Hungary, where homeopathy has great traditions, a Congress of this kind was organised last time in 1935. Since then – especially during a ban of more than 40 years - no such event could be held here. The Congress in 2000 is meant, among others, to put an end to that long period of silence.
The year 2000 is also the year of the Hungarian Millennium. The Millennium festivities will most probably raise interest in Hungary all over the world. By organising the Congress, Hungary may very well find itself in the centre of the attention of the ever-expanding international homeopathic community. In addition to promoting homeopathy, our Congress will also contribute to the fulfilment of the objectives of Millennium festivities.
The year 2000 is at the same time the turn of the century. Many people say that homeopathy is the healing method of the 21st century and will receive its due recognition in the new era. This is the reason why we have decided to select "Homeopathy - Medical Art of the 21st Century" as the main theme of the Congress.
The Congress will be held on the premises of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Count Istvan Szechenyi, founder of the Academy, was known to subject himself to homeopathic treatment. Is there a worthier venue in Hungary for the first lecture by George Vithoulkas, winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize?
Prof. Dr. Mathias Dorcsi, who is Hungarian on his father's side, will be the Honorary President of the Congress. The Austrian professor, living now in Germany, has done a lot to start the education of classical homeopathy in Hungary.
Homeopathic experts of international fame have been invited to give presentations every day. In addition to George Vithoulkas of Greece, the Congress will feature Farokh J. Master of India, Tatyana D. Popova of Ukraine and Massimo Mangialavori of Italy.
We look forward to a successful and memorable Congress attended by researchers and practitioners of homeopathy from all over the world.
Mathias Dorcsi (Austria)
After studying medicine, Mathias
Dorcsi, whose father was of Hungarian origin, established the New Medical
Association for Homeopathic Doctors in Austria in 1953. He organised intensive
homeopathic courses in Baden/Vienna in 1973. In 1975 he was given permission
by the Ludwig-Boltzmann-Institute to carry out homeopathic research in
Austria. After a long battle with the Medical Faculty in Vienna, lectures
on homeopathy were launched in 1984, and Dorcsi was appointed to a professorship
in 1985. He moved to Munich in 1989. Since 1995 he has been the supervisor
of the model project of "Homeopathy in Pediatrics" at the Dr. von Haunersches
Children's Hospital, University of Munich. He authored a great number of
books and has received many awards for his work, e.g. the Gold Medal for
Sciences and Art of the Republic of Austria, in 1996. Also, he plays an
important role in rebuilding homeopathy in Hungary; the first Baden-type,
three-year homeopathic education started with his lectures in 1993.
Massimo Mangialavori (Italy)
He was a surgeon and beside this
he was interested in anthropology. He has been practising homeopathy for
15 years. He has a school for Classical Homeopathy in Italy and also teaches
at many other places.
His main interest in Homeopathy
is to work on the relationship with the patient and to look over a wide
range of remedies that he considers grouped by families, according to different
similarities. He doesn’t deny the individuality of each remedy, however
says that it is very important to understand the relationship between similar
remedies to have a more precise diagnosis and a more precise therapy.
Farokh J. Master (India)
He is professor of Homeopathic Materia
Medica at Homeopathic Medical College in Bombay which has been affiliated
to Bombay University for the last 19 years. He is Doctor of Medicine in
Homeopathy awarded with Gold Medal. He authored about 29 books and has
been internationally teaching for the last 16 years in Europe and the United
States.
Recently, he focused his interest
on how the state of mind of pregnant mother influences the foetus and how
we can act in these cases with the aid of homeopathic treatment.
Tatyana D. Popova (Ukraine)
She is the President of the Popov
Homeopathic Centre in Kiev.
After graduation (1955. Kiev Medical
Institute) she immediately started to work as a homeopath. She followed
the track of her father, founder of the Kiev Homeopathic School.
During the era of the so called
“perestroika” which brought official recognition to homeopathy in the country,
she established the Homeopathic Center of which she continues to be the
tireless leader to date. She is the author of several books, a great number
of articles on homeopathy. She was awarded with the Commemorative Medal
of OMHI for her outstanding achievements in developing homeopathy in her
native country. As a doctor she is a follower of classical homeopathy.
George Vithoulkas (Greece)
He is the Honorary President of the
Hellenic Medical Association; Director of the Centre of Homeopathic Medicine,
Athens; Director of the International Academy for Classical Homeopathy
in Alonissos, Greece. He has been teaching classical homeopathy internationally
20 years. He is member of several organisations and foundations; author
of a number of homeopathic books, among other Materia Medica Viva; developer
of a highly sophisticated computer system: Vithoulkas Expert System, an
essential tool for hundreds of homeopaths in prescribing homeopathic remedies.
In 1996 he was awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize for his outstanding
achievements in the field of classical homeopathy.
The Programme is arranged into 90-minute sessions.
The highlights of the Congress are the plenary sessions with invited speakers. No activities have been scheduled to coincide with these sessions.
Plenary sessions are followed daily by two parallel sessions accommodating the papers accepted for oral presentation.
A Workshop on Data Collection will be additionally organised Tuesday afternoon, May 16 .
A number of authors have been invited
to prepare their papers for poster presentation. Posters will be displayed
during the Congress next to the "coffee break area". Authors will be asked
to present their papers during coffee breaks (3-4 papers per break). The
schedule of the poster presentations will be included in the Final Programme.
