4D Reconstruction Studio
A 4D Reconstruction Studio has been created by the Geometric Modelling and Computer Vision Laboratory at MTA SZTAKI. The studio is a room with uniform background and appropriate illumination, equipped with 13 calibrated, synchronised, high-resolution video cameras. Its main objectives are capturing videos of a scene from multiple viewpoints and creating dynamic 3D models of articulated objects moving in the scene. This advanced, intelligent sensory environment can be used for computer vision research and technological development in a variety of applications, such as computer games, interactive media, film production and motion analysis in different areas.
The system can work both in off-line and on-line mode. In the off-line mode, the video data is stored on disc before being processed. In the on-line mode, a fast GPU implementation of the algorithms allows for the real-time operation of the studio: a dynamic 3D model of the moving actor is built from videos on-line without storing the video data. The GPU-based solution provides the capability to view the dynamic model from any viewpoint during capture.
